Society salsa also seems to attract quite a lot of really good dancers. People dress up to dance at Society salsa. With cloakroom, doorman, good bar staff, great music and a good quality dance floor where can you go wrong. One comment from myself, it gets really warm, I do not think the building was set up to handle 300 salsa dancers who dance to nearly all the numbers played, the heat from the room could warm up a full length swimming pool for a week.

They only had one show, 3 ladies from La diferencia, as usual I filmed it on my iPhone.

Inside the ceiling must be at least 10 meters high and the huge wooden beams stretching up and around the whole inside is just a breathtaking piece of history.

The party was held by Salsa Happytime and from 20:00 until 02:00 with a Zouk workshop from 21:00 till 22:00. I recognized the guy giving the workshop, we used to dance together many years ago under Adilio Porto. The DJ was DJ Ronaldo who I had till tonight not heard of, but he done a really good job. The music was a good variation of Salsa, Bachata, Zouk and Merengue, no hiccups or mistakes. What I found a bit irritating is that he played a few melodies of mixed songs that went for 8 bars and then stopped and kept on changing to another song? this of course means the steps of flow of dancers are lost and watching the people dancing is sometimes comical.

We met Erol and Els from Dances2Love who came for the Zouk, I did not recognize a lot of people. I think that most of the people where local.

Even though it was such a high room it was very warm. The interior was well done and the floor was pretty slippy, you wouldn’t need dancing shoes as man, I had leather soled shoes and found it on the edge.
We had fun and danced for nearly three hours. It was a nice crowd of people with a mix of beginners, intermediate and experienced dancers. I noticed a few groups of people who didn’t dance at all, just came to watch or just out for a drink on a Saturday night.

All in all we had fun and will definitely be there for the next party with the theme Bachata.

Later on came the Salsa Shows from: Matanza and Fuerza Pro team Both really top professional dance teams. It’s a new and busy locations so if your looking for room arrive on time, as after 23:00 its pretty warm on the floor. I have to say I noticed quite a lot of really good dancers at this party, while taking a break just watching the dancers on the floor is a pleasure in its self.

The music was by DJ Andres, “el Jefe” himself. I notice that he plays salsa music with lots of tempo switches, and mambo what sometimes even sounds jazzy, similar to big band salsa, the latter not my personal favorite. He did not play that much bachata, still we had a great time.

The main hall has a good dance floor and nice lighting that matched  the high ceilings and decor. We found it to be very warm, you could feel the heat as you walked into the room. The bar staff where very good and efficient.

I estimate approximately 150 to 200 people on the floor, we had ticket no’s 116 and 117, which was just right for the size of the floor. Lots of new faces for Haarlem and lots of people we knew from different dance schools.

At midnight we had two of the shows, which where excellent. Fuerza Pro team danced first followed by eStilo Dance Company below I can both shows which I filmed on my iPhone.

We will certainly be at the next Salsa Society salsa party in Haarlem.

Before we left home I typed their name into YouTube to see how they sounded. I have to say they where above expectations. The club usually hlds Carribean nights or over 25′s party’s disco, oldies etc. But tonight it was Bachata night.

I noticed a lot of people from different dance schools, we met people from salsamotion, club fiera, SuzQ,  and Bachata Lounge.  We danced for about 2,5 hours and had a great time. Nw and again the DJ played Salsa, Merengue and a few other Latin classics.

The floor had a few broken or frayed corners. Evn though it was warm they had quite a good ventilation through the room. It got pretty busy later through the night. We left early and on our way out we met Rolf coming in and in the carpark we met Sascha. Should have stayed longer…

We arrived in time for the party 21:00, very few people compared to the year before. The band a 5 piece lady Salsa band “RUMBADAMA” was just great. every 30 minutes they would take a break and  DJ Latin Masters played the music..

The demos as well as the demonstrations where done by ZoukLovers, Club Fiera and Patrick Mussendijk.

Patrick Mussendijk is just one of the best dancers you could ever meet. He is so relaxed while doing so many moves it makes it look easy. The bachata team from Club Fiera done a good bachata routine. I noticed that they have got their timing good and come over much more relaxed than in the past. I am sorry to say but I personally found the Zouk routine from ZoukLovers under par. The dancers mist flow, rhythm, and lacked confidence. I seen them struggling through some moves.

Stalls: Dance shoes from Peroti Zapatos, Oma’s Kitchen: Suriname kitchen, SalsaSupply had DVD’s as well as shoes, and Most Wanted with DVD.s.

We enjoyed the party, it was a lot less busy than first year. It was very warm on the night. The floor  was very hard to dance on. I spoke to a lot of people who had problems dancing, even with dance shoes, it felt like that it needed a good buffering, which was a shame.

I don’t know if they will have a VELSALSA 3 if they do, I will go again, we met a lot of people we know and it is a nice location.

A beer cost 2 euros.

We had never been there before so just before leaving we gave them a ring to check. It’s the summer months and most dance schools are on holidays, we find that some dance school internet sites are not updated as they should be. They told us that the party is on but the site has not been updated and the parties have moved from Sunday night to Friday night. Great, we thought, it’s also exciting to go to a new location. Maybe it’s really busy or maybe it’s empty, either way we can dance.

The main roads lead right up to the cafe so it took us only 25 minutes to get there. When we arrived it was really quiet, there was only 3 ladies and no men in sight. Two ladies sat on comfortable chairs and the other at the bar. The DJ was playing merengue. We got a drink and found two nice sued chairs to sit on.

It is a really nice place, the theme of the cafe is of an old movie theater with posters of old famous movie stars. When the first salsa song was being played we got up to dance, we where alone and just enjoyed being able to dance. later on a few more people arrived, in total 6 more people. We found it to be a really nice location, the music was good, lots of salsa and bachata, also some older slow bachata.

For the first few hours when anyone wanted to dance you where basically on your own, what can be a bit nerve raking, but the people where all experienced dancers and had no problem dancing alone.

The dance floor was made from hard linoleum, not the best material for a dance floor but we could dance on it without any problems. It is not a big floor, maybe room for 10 couples.
I ordered a Bacardi cola and a glass of Rose which cost me €10:00 the Bacardi cola cost €6:50.
We found it to be a nice place and will certainly go back again, when leaving the owner told us that it is usually busier than tonight it is because the site had not been updated and the salsa night had been changed from Sunday to Friday.

DJ Charly just played great music, he had combinations that consisted of Salsa, Bachata lots of Zouk, merengue, Kizombu and a few Antilles numbers.

The location was in the Concordia a nice party centre with nice dance floors. The top floor was pretty warm as the ceiling is lower than normal, so as usual I was just sweating.
We danced for hours, so long that we hadn’t noticed that it was 02:30 and the party is nearly finished.

What a great night. I had sent a few emails to people who I hadn’t seen in year’s and to my surprise Sacha arrived with his girlfriend. Nice to see old salsa friends.
